Remember back in the day when people would do GWD bosses and complain about every world's boss room being full and people constantly crashing each other?
What if that problem... was actually the gameplay?
Outside of the Wilderness, if someone crashes you, you can do nothing. All they have to do is out-damage you on the boss.
But in the Wilderness, you can just fucking kill them. That's the whole point.
So here's an idea I had for turning this idea of players crashing each other into real, intentional gameplay.
What if the Wilderness Bosses were in a Team Combat Zone? Then your team of 6 could only be attacked by another team of 6.
One of the most annoying things about being crashed at a boss is that if someone wants to, they can just keep crashing you over and over again.
So what if we turn that problem into gameplay and create an anti-crashing mechanic?
What if you could "barricade" yourself into Callisto's arena?
Here's how it would work. When your team kills Callisto, the edges of the arena rapidly grow Wildertrees - fast-growing trees that feed off the energy of the dead souls. Your team can use the Wilderwood and Wildervines to barricade the entrance.
The barricade traps your team inside, so no quick escaping - but any team trying to invade has to break it down first, giving you a moment to prepare. If you kill the invading team, they're locked out for 30 minutes. Though during that window, a completely different team could still come for you.
If the invading team kills you, you can come back once to try and get your spot back, but if you lose again, you will be locked out for 30 minutes.
The resupply mechanic is what makes this fair even against clans. Killing Callisto also grows Wilderbushes with Wilderberries. You can eat them like a manta ray, or make crude potions from them that function like Saradomin brews or Super restores. Callisto might even drop Callisto Meat you can cook on a fire in the cave.
Thanks to this, even if a clan sends team after team at you, every fight starts on even footing. That's the only way I can think of to actually balance this kind of sustained pressure.
Other bosses could have their own version. Venenatis could have web cocoons around the arena that you can only cut open while the boss is dead which holds a dead adventurer's backpack full of supplies. Vet'ion could have a Champion Spirit or a reward chest for the team that defeats him.
I know it's not for everyone, but I am that type of player who probably would enjoy camping a boss and occasionally fighting whatever players show up to try and take my spot.
And I really enjoy ideas that are "turning the problems into gameplay".
This is all just an idea - but I think it's a good one.
I have more ideas related to "Wilderness Resupply" on this page.
