Vengeful Shield

Thank you!

The Vengeful Shield has a "special defense" mechanic, similar to the Rondache or Dragonfire Shield.

It gives you a weaker version of Vengeance, which will deflect 45% of the damage you take back to your attacker. Compare to the 75% from Vengeance.

It shares a cooldown with Vengeance. You cannot use both at the same time.

If you cast Vengeance after activating the shield's ability, Vengeance will just override it being the stronger version.

It requires 40 defense to equip. Note that Vengeance also requires 40 defense to unlock.

Alternatively, it could require 1 defense and 40 hitpoints to equip, or 1 defense and 40 magic.

It has minimal defensive stats and no offensive bonuses. The low defense is because it's meant to be used for the Vengeance effect, so you want to get hit.

So what's the point of this shield?

It enables "Venge-PKing" for a much much wider range of accounts and players than currently can engage with it.

Venge-PKing is locked behind 94 magic. In other words, you have to nearly max out a stat to be able to try it.

It makes no sense for such a popular style of PvP to be locked away from newer lower level players.

This item should offer a lot of bang for its buck. It opens up a LOT more PvP potential for more players.

Additional Considerations

It doesn't necessarily have to be a shield.

For example, we could add a new Lunar spell called "Lesser Vengeance" that's level 50 and therefore far more accessible to more players.

Perhaps a better name for that spell would be "Pure Vengeance".

This would make the "Weaker Vengeance" retain the same quest requirement of completing Lunar Diplomacy.

This would also retain the trade-offs of keeping it attached to the Lunar Spellbook.

However, I think that would be defeating the purpose of opening up this style of PvP to more levels of players and account builds.

Personally, I would not mind the Vengeful Shield being able to be paired with Ice Barrage or Fire Surge, because it's still a weaker version of Vengeance.

Or we could do both. The spell version could work for the entire game in general, whereas the shield version is only available in PvP minigames where it's not as impactful as within the Wilderness.

Taste Pure Vengeance!
